(re)Current Allegories

1990

(re)current allegories is a series of 3 photographic installations which juxtapose images taken by the artist on journeys in classical Greece and Turkey with photographs of the cultural objects and trappings of tourism discovered on these and other journeys. In cojunction with the writings of Sally Rice the work also suggests the ways in which classicism is used in selling a mythical 'quality' in both art and advertising.

These images had been an important part of the artists travels for several years and she was finally inspired by the writings of Christa Wolf in her novel Cassandra to bring them together in this way.
